Remember, every ticket purchased is eligible for each drawing, even if it has won before. So purchase your Cash Calendar tickets ($10.00 per ticket) and help Holy Spirit School. More tickets are available in the school office.  GOOD LUCK!

WELCOME BACK/SAYING GOODBYE: This week we welcome Mrs. Garling back to 3rd Grade after her maternity leave. We missed you! We also must say goodbye to Mrs. Mary Rupp, our Grade 4/5 teacher aide. Due to family circumstances Mrs. Rupp’s last day was yesterday. Thank you Mrs. Rupp for all you brought to our students and faculty during your time here at Holy Spirit. Best of luck to you.

CASH FOR CLASS: Holy Spirit School is currently in 1st place!! Parents, please fill up your brown sacks with Fremont Hub receipts! At the end of the month, send the receipts to the school office and keep the bag to fill again. There is no need to fill out any envelopes; I will do that for you. Shop at the Hub and send in your receipts within 45 days, anything older that that will not count. Thanks, Lenora Garcia

NO DOGS ON CAMPUS: Please remember that no dogs are allowed on campus. Many students are afraid of dogs and others have allergies. To ensure the comfort and safety of all children, please leave your dogs at home or in your car. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

NEW STUDENT APPLICATIONS: School families who are interested in applying for Grade K in the fall of 2008 must pick up an application in the school office. Also, any family who would like to apply for Grade 1 -7 for a new student not currently attending Holy Spirit must also pick up an application. All completed applications must be returned to the office no later that Friday, February 15th

PARENT CLUB MEETING: There will be a Parent Club Meeting this Friday at 7:00 pm in the Small Hall.

CANDYGRAMS:  Candy grams are on sale now for $.50 at recess every day in the school lobby.  Please see the enclosed flyer for more information and order form.

MERRY MART SALE: Merry Mart Uniform Store is having an on-line sale during the month of February. They are offering families 10% off when you shop on their website, www.merrymartuniforms.com  Remember, they will also donate 3% of your purchases to our school.  If you are needing to buy new uniform items, February looks like a great opportunity to save money and help out Holy Spirit School at the same time.

YEARBOOKS: There is still time to order your Holy Spirit School Yearbook. The price is now $20.00. Share in all the fun and memories of this school year.

SEE’S CANDY: The 7th Graders at Holy Spirit School are selling See’s Candies as a fundraiser for their Yosemite trip and graduation fees. Easter is just around the corner, so look for them or call the office.  There is no sales tax and you don’t have to make a trip to the busy mall.  Thanks for your support.

ON YOUR MARK...GET SET.... GO!!! Would you like to get in shape while helping our school raise money?  Then mark your calendars for Holy Spirit School's 3rd Annual "Catch the Spirit 2 mile Family Fun Walk/Run" scheduled for Saturday April 5, 2008 at Quarry Lakes in Fremont.  Registration forms are in the school office.  For Registration Details call Connie Santillana at 471-9527. SAVE THE DATE: The Holy Spirit School Father & Son (& Holy Spirit) event will be held on Saturday, March 29th. The event includes a tailgate BBQ and A’s vs. Giants baseball game. More information will be coming in February.

SUMMER SCHOOL: It’s not too early to start planning activities for the summer. St. Edward School has been running a 5-week summer school program that offers three separate sessions to allow for vacation time, or to just give parents a break for 1, 2 or up to 5 weeks during the summer. Classes available include both enrichment and remedial, including cooking, music, art, science, math, reading, grammar, vacation bible study, double dutch jump rope, engineering, and much more. Classes are open to incoming 1st through 8th graders. The dates of summer school run from June 23 through July 25, 2008. The summer school brochures will be available in the school office before Easter break. If you have any further questions, please contact St. Edward School at 793-7242.

FAT SUNDAY: If you worked in the Small Hall on Fat Sunday and brought home a black Pacific Trail jacket size Medium, please check to see if it is yours. There was more than one there and they may have gotten mixed up. Please return the jacket to the school office and we will make the exchange. Thank you.

HONOR STUDENT: Melissa Paragas, a graduate of Holy Spirit School, has earned “Highest Honors” at Mercy High School in Burlingame. She achieved a grade point average between 3.5 and 5.0. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

Dear Parents and Students,

When Pope John Paul addressed the annual convention of the national Catholic Educational Association in 1987, he proclaimed Catholic schools “a gift to the Church and to the nation”.

I hope you and your children enjoyed all of the activities prepared by the teachers and students to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. I want to thank the Student Council for all their work throughout this Catholic Schools Week.  As a Catholic community we began the week with Mass and ended the week with Mass on Friday. The opportunity to pray as a community is to be valued by all of us.  Indeed, Catholic Schools do “Light the Way!”

Lent begins today!  Please discuss with your children ways to make these forty days bring your whole family closer to God. I hope that you will use the “ Family Lent Calendar” that went home last Wednesday and try to do one of the activities, read from the scripture each day or do something special each day of Lent to help you reflect as Jesus did when he spent forty days in the desert fasting and praying.

“Do you want to do something good and holy—indeed very holy and divine? Then work for the salvation of all young people.” –St. John Bosco

Blessings~
