Renewing families will receive a packet the first week of April. Renewing families adding a new child in the fall must fill out an application for the new child. We also have applications for FACE in the school office as well.  FACE applications need to be returned to the school office no later than March 28, 2008. Please call the school office if you have any questions.

PARENTS WE WANT YOUR INPUT! TIME IS RUNNING OUT! You spoke loud and clear at the last parent club meeting that you wanted more communication!  Now is your chance to assist us with that effort. Please go online -- www.holyspiritfmt.com -- today to complete our parent club survey. To date, only a handful of parents have provided input. Let your voice be heard!  A hard copy of the survey was provided in the 2/27/08 envelope, should you prefer sending a paper copy. Thank you for your efforts.

HOLY SPIRIT FUN WALK/RUN: Last Chance to Sponsor the 2008 Catch the Spirit Family Fun Walk/Run!

T-shirts go to print next week so all sponsorship commitments need to be finalized by this Friday, March 14.  If your family, your business or employer would like to sponsor the Fun Run, please contact Lucia Pena at 791-2655 or lgpena@earthlink.net right away. There are four sponsorship levels this year:  Gold ($1,000+), Silver ($500+), Bronze ($300+) and Spirit ($150+). All sponsorship levels allow for printing of your business, employer or family name on race shirts, listing on pre-race literature and announcements, and will be publicized on race day.  This is a growing community event where everybody wins!  For sponsorship information, contact Lucia Pena @ 791-2655, lgpena@earthlink.net or Rosey Loaisiga @ 790-8354.   A very special thanks to our sponsors!  See the Gazette for a complete list.

FATHER & SON EVENTFinal ticket orders have been placed and will be sent out with detailed Tailgate info prior to Easter Break.  Any questions please call or email Mrs. Barrett.

FESTIVAL 2008 BOOTH SPONSORS:  The annual Holy Spirit Festival will be held on May 17 & 18, 2008. The festival is a parish wide event and serves as the primary fundraiser for parish and school needs. We are currently asking for donations to help defray the cost of an inflatable device, game and food booths.  To sponsor a booth the cost is $100.00 and your family name or business name will be printed on a banner and displayed over the inflatable device, game or food booth.  Please see the handout in the Wednesday envelope. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Bev Angeles at 793-5047.

SOCK DRIVE:  This is the last week for the ‘sock’ drive.  We will be collecting new socks on Friday morning to help the homeless in our area.  After exploring the needs in our community, it was found that this is how we can really help.  So when you are at the mall, please consider picking up an extra pair of socks to help those in need.  The socks will be donated to the Tri City Homeless Shelter on behalf of the children at Holy Spirit School.  Thank you!

Keep saving those Box Tops for Education.  Our school made $500 dollars from all your hard work and we would like to increase that amount next year.  Tell your friends and relatives how easy it is to clip them and save them.  They really start to accumulate before you know it!  Thanks again for your support this year!  Student Council.

THE SUMMER SCHOOL BROCHURES ARE HERE!  St. Edward School in Newark offers a 2,3, or 5-week summer school program for students entering 1st through 8th grade in the 2008-09 school year. In addition, St. Edward School offers extended care before and after school from 7:00am until early evening for an additional fee.  After school sports programs are available as an option too!  Sign-up quickly for those popular cooking classes in order to reserve your child’s spot in class.  Check out the new classes offered this year!  If you have any further questions please call the St. Edward School office at 793-7242.

FACE RAFFLE TICKETS: FACE – Family Aid-Catholic Education – is celebrating its 30th Anniversary Gala Auction and Dinner. Raffle tickets are available in the school lobby. A ticket can be purchased for a $75.00 donation to FACE.  The winner will receive $10,000.00 cash!! Good luck and thanks for supporting this wonderful tuition assistance program in the Diocese of Oakland.

 NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

Dear Parents and Students,

This coming Sunday begins Holy Week.  It amazes me how long I think Lent is from Ash Wednesday to Easter and then how fast the days go by.  Please think about how your family will participate in the Holy Week liturgies from Palm Sunday through the Triduum.  The Sacred Triduum is considered to be one continuous celebration of Christ’s dying and rising.  It begins on Holy Thursday evening and continues with Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Attending the Holy Thursday liturgy can be a wonderful experience as it recalls the story of the first Eucharist when Jesus had the Last Supper with His Apostles, and closes with the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. On Good Friday, you would be able to attend the Stations of the Cross and the Veneration of the Cross.  There is no Mass on Good Friday.

At the Easter Vigil, new members of the church will be baptized and on Easter morning we hear the story from John 20:1-9, recalling the Resurrection of the Lord.

Whatever you do make this week holy for you and your family.

Prayer for Holy Week

Sing, my tongue, the Savior’s glory:

Tell his triumph far and wide;

Tell aloud the famous story

Of his body crucified;

How upon the cross a victim,

Vanquishing in death, he died.

Faithful cross, O tree all beauteous!

Tree all peerless and divine,

Not a grove on earth can show us

Such a flow’r and leaf as thine.

Sweet the nails, and sweet the wood,

Laden with so sweet a load!

Lofty tree, bend down your branches,

To embrace your sacred load;

Oh, relax the native tension

Of that all too rigid wood;

Gently, gently bear the members

Of your dying King and God.

~Pange Ligua, Venatius Fortunatus, Sixth century
