CASH CALENDAR: Our $100.00 Cash Calendar winner for this week is Marie Balajadia, mother of Jillaine in Grade 4. Congratulations! Remember, every ticket purchased is eligible for each drawing, even if it has won before. If you have not purchased the mandatory $300.00 worth of Cash Calendar tickets, payment is due in the office now. Please refer to your April tuition statement for the correct amount owed.
CASH FOR CLASS: Holy Spirit School is currently in 1st place!! Parents, please fill up your brown sacks with Fremont Hub receipts! At the end of the month, send the receipts to the school office and keep the bag to fill again. There is no need to fill out any envelopes; I will do that for you. Shop at the Hub and send in your receipts within 45 days, anything older that that will not count. Thanks, Lenora Garcia
RE-REGISTRATION DUE: All re-registration payments are due tomorrow, May 1, 2008. The amount is $275.00 per child.
MAY CROWNING: The crowning of our Blessed Mother will take place at the 11:00 am Mass on May 2nd. Victoria Rodriguez will be crowning Mary; Maggie Hoang will assist her; and Daniel Zenarosa will be reading a special prayer. All students are invited to bring flowers for Mary. If anyone is interested in making the floral crown for the Blessed Mother please contact the school office.
PEER TUTORING: Thursday, May 8th will be the last day for the after school Peer tutoring sessions. Thank you to the many 8th graders who have given their time and guidance to the younger students.
FATHER MATHEW’S BIRTHDAY: In May we will be celebrating Father Mathew's 50th birthday with him. In honor of this occasion, we are asking you to send in a donation that will go towards his home church in India, which is his favorite charity. Please send this donation by May 7 to the office and make checks payable to HSS. Thank you for helping our most wonderful Pastor to celebrate this special day.
BUDDY FAMILIES: We need some wonderful HSS families to be new buddies for our incoming families. If you would like to be a buddy family, please send an e-mail to Mrs. Drabin at adrabin@csdo.org. Thank you.
KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE: The morning drop off zone is designed to allow your children to safely exit your vehicle and cross into the safe zone. Our traffic management is designed for 6 cars total (3 in each lane) to drop off at one time. This allows traffic to leave the parking lot at the Parish Avenue gate while the next set of cars is dropping off. When parents are outside the drop off zone and have their children get out of the car, the following results:
1) It's not safe for your child because the traffic director can't see them;
2) It creates a traffic jam at the gate, causing gridlock in the entire system;
3) It creates a chain-reaction of others dropping off their children outside the drop off zone.
Do not drop off your children outside the drop off zone, and remember to watch the hand-signals of the traffic director to keep all of our children safe. With everyone's help (and a little patience), we can keep our drop off zone efficient and safe for everyone.
WE NEED YOU! We are looking for parents or grandparents who want to form a team of traffic directors starting in the fall. You will receive parent hours. The current traffic director, Barney Chan, will provide training so that you'll know exactly what to do. After 14 years, Barney is retiring, so it's time to find new traffic directors so that our drop off lane can continue to serve our community. Can you help one day a week from 7:30 - 8:00? We're hopeful that we can find between 5-10 adults to become the new traffic directors. If you'd like to become a part of this valuable team, please contact Mrs. Barrett - vybarrett@yahoo.com.
VOLUNTEERS WANTED: It’s festival time again and the Casino Paradise booth is looking for a few good people. We are in need of volunteers with some knowledge of card games (i.e. poker, Texas Hold’em and Black Jack). We have a number of 2-hour shifts available on both Saturday and Sunday. If anyone is interested please email Jason Reed at bigpants141@comcast.net or call 510-742-2252. Parking and Security also needs volunteers. This will count towards festival hours. If you can help, please contact Marianne Adams, 429-0444,HYPERLINK "mailto:jamadams@pacbell.net"jamadams@pacbell.net, or contact her through the school office.
ROOM PARENTS NEEDED: We are looking for 2 Room Parents for 2008-2009 for each grade. Get involved and help with planning the activities for your child’s' class for 2008-2009. As one of the Room Parents, your role is to organize the parents in your class and make sure the teacher’s needs are met via parent participation. For more details, you can contact Ceciel Nues at (510) 494-8968 or by emailing - Ceciel@rcck.com

NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Dear Parents and Students,
I want to explain a little more this week about “bullying” and how each of you can assist in this area. As a parish, a committee will be established to look at the ways we can coordinate the prevention efforts and evaluate the success of an anti-bullying plan.
We plan to support parent education through our Parent Club and discuss with the school staff school-wide actions to prevent bullying. It is the responsibility of each staff member and each student to prevent bullying. We are looking at resources to assist teachers, parents, and students as we work together to build and strengthen this parish-wide effort at Holy Spirit.
As a Catholic school and parish all members are to be treated with respect in word, thought, and deed, as we are all important in God’s eyes. “ If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it.” (Please read 1 Corinthians 12:12-31.)
Many Blessings~
Susan C. Buchanan
