CASH CALENDAR: Our $100.00 Cash Calendar winner for this week is Marlone Legaspi, father of Maxine in Grade 5, and Myrone in Grade 1. Congratulations! Remember, every ticket purchased is eligible for each drawing, even if it has won before. If you have not purchased the mandatory $300.00 worth of Cash Calendar tickets, payment is due in the office now. Please refer to your April tuition statement for the correct amount owed.
DID YOU KNOW? It would take a purchase of almost $4,500.00 worth of Starbuck’s scrip to earn a $300.00 profit for Holy Spirit School. You would have to purchase $10,000.00 of Safeway scrip to earn a $300.00 profit for Holy Spirit School. Our Scrip program is extremely important to us, however, without your Cash Calendar donations of $300.00 per family we would have to raise tuition rates even higher. There are still 4 more $100.00 Cash Calendar drawings this year, as well as, one more $1,000.00 drawing on the last day of school. Good luck!
CASH FOR CLASS: Holy Spirit School is currently in 1st place and this year’s contest is almost over!! Parents, please fill up your brown sacks with Fremont Hub receipts! Remember to turn in all receipts no later than this Friday, May 16, 2008. The receipts must be dated no later than May 15, 2008. Thanks so much.

FUN WALK/RUN RAFFLE: Don’t forget to sell or purchase the raffle tickets to win the LaDainian Tomlinson autographed football! The tickets were sent home 4/23/08. The raffle will take place on Friday, May 30, 2008 at morning announcements. Thank you for your support.
FILIPINO CULTURE CLASS: Filipino Culture Class families are reminded to submit your performance slips before Thursday, May 15th. We will have a mandatory dress rehearsal on Friday, May 16th from 3:10pm to 6:30pm on campus. Costumes will be distributed after rehearsals. On Sunday, May 18th, all students will meet in full costume at 10:00am in Room 6 - promptness is of the utmost importance! We will walk as a group to the DMV on Dusterberry Way at 10:30am to join the traditional Procession. Once the Procession comes to an end on campus, all students are to return to Room 6 at 12:30pm for a bagged lunch, a group photo session, and rehearsals until our 4:00pm performances. Parents are responsible to return your students to Room 6 immediately after the Procession. For questions, please contact Marie Herbert at 489-3124, mherbert@stanford.edu, or the6herberts@sbcglobal.net. Have fun and break a leg!
FILIPINO CULTURE CLASS: Come one, come all! Holy Spirit's after school enrichment program, the Filipino Culture Class will be performing at the Parish Festival's outdoors stage on campus this weekend. Enjoy your afternoon with the 75 Kindergarten to 8th grade students of the Filipino Culture Class as they showcase traditional and modern dances and songs. We have student soloists from 2nd to 8th grade who will sing their hearts out, dancers who skillfully move through quick moving bamboo sticks, dancers balancing a candle in a glass on their heads, students cleverly dancing on a 6-inch wide bench, parents and students singing duets, and you cannot miss all 75 students dancing the latest modern dance craze! Sunday, May 18th from 4:00pm to 5:00pm at the Parish Festival's outdoors stage on campus see you there!
VOLUNTEERS WANTED: It’s festival time again and the Casino Paradise booth is looking for a few good people. We are in need of volunteers with some knowledge of card games (i.e. poker, Texas Hold’em and Black Jack). We have a number of 2-hour shifts available on both Saturday and Sunday. If anyone is interested please email Jason Reed at bigpants141@comcast.net or call 510-742-2252.
Parking and Security also needs volunteers. This will count towards festival hours. If you can help, please contact Marianne Adams, 429-0444, jamadams@pacbell.net, or contact her through the school office.
ATTENTION…ATTENTION: Field Day is coming up soon and we need some help. Volunteers are needed to help serve food to the students on June 10, 2008 so sign up and help at this FUN event! Contact Kelly Hopkins at kellyhopkins@kw.com or 510-366-7695 for details.
GIRL SCOUT TROOP 3-2553: Congratulations to bridging Junior Girl Scout Troop 3-2553, who completed the younger girl program and bridged in style this past weekend on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco! Holy Spirit School's own Troop 3-2553 had the chance to strut their stuff across the most beautiful bridge in California, the Golden Gate Bridge. Girl Scouts arrived statewide and 6,500 other scouts joined in on the once in a lifetime opportunity. Congratulations to Holy Spirit's 6th and 7th grade girls who have graduated to Girl Scout Cadet’s; our future outstanding leaders.
RECYCLE FIRST COMMUNION DRESSES: Our neighboring parish, St. Joseph, is collecting First Communion dresses for their sister parish, Santa Maria del Camino in Guatemala City. Santa Maria del Camino serves a very large and extremely poor community. If you can help, please bring the First Communion items to the school office by May 30. St. Joseph parishioners will carry the items with them when they visit Guatemala in June.
NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Dear Parents and Students,
First, I would like to congratulate all of our students who made their First Holy Communion on May 3rd. “Let us keep the joy of loving Jesus in our hearts…” just as these students do. “…And let us share that joy with everyone we meet. Passing on joy is something, which is very natural. We have no reason for not being joyful, since Christ is with us. Christ is in our hearts. Christ is in the poor we meet. Christ is in the smile we give to others, and he is in the smile we receive from others.” ~Mother Teresa~ May Jesus continue to bless each of you each and every day and especially when you receive Him in Holy Communion!
Next, I’d like to ask you to set the dates of June 16-19 for “Discover Jesus” Family Bible Week from 6-8:30 PM. A flier for registration is included in this week’s Update. I AM LOOKING FOR PARENT VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH THE CHILDREN’S PROGRAM. This is a fun time to help our PreK- 6th graders learn and experience Jesus through scripture, song, crafts and games---in small groups. If you are able to help please call the office and tell Mrs. Plaza or Mrs. Ghiringhelli or email me at sbuchanan@csdo.org.
Lastly, on behalf of all of the Holy Spirit School Teachers and Staff, I’d like to thank all the parents who made the celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week such a wonderful experience with food, gifts and flowers. The Holy Spirit School teachers and staff appreciated the time and effort given by all!
Blessings
Susan C. Buchanan
