IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Over the Holiday weekend, one of our main servers for our computer system went down. We do not have access to our email or the Internet. If you sent Susan Buchanan, Dianne Ghiringhelli or Donna Plaza an announcement or flyer to be included in this week’s Family Envelope or Update, we were unable to retrieve it; therefore, it will not appear in this week’s information. If you want something put in morning or afternoon announcements, please call or come to the school office with the announcement. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. We hope to be up and running again before the end of the week.
CASH CALENDAR: Our $100.00 Cash Calendar winner for this week is Rafael Zamora, father of Kayla in Grade 4, and Lucas in Grade 2. Congratulations! There are 2 more Monday $100.00 drawings, and one more $1,000.00 drawing on the last day of school. If you have not purchased the mandatory $300.00 worth of Cash Calendar tickets, payment is due in the office now. Please refer to your April tuition statement for the correct amount owed.
SCRIP NEWS: On the back of your SCRIP order form in your Family Envelope, are some gift ideas for Dads and Grads using SCRIP gift cards. June 5th will be the last day to place Special Orders for this school year. Always keep SCRIP in mind when planning for the summer months. We have plenty of gas cards on hand as well as Burger King, Wendy’s, Jack in the Box, Carl’s Jr. and KFC for quick lunches while you’re on the road. Will you or your children be attending summer birthday parties? How about Toys R Us, Best Buy or Borders gift cards. All these cards come in handy for every vacation and special occasion!
SCHOOLPOP.COM Remember, when shopping on-line, go through Schoolpop.com and you can shop at hundreds of merchants and you not only save time and money, but our school will receive up to a 22.5% contribution on every purchase. Stores such as Barnes & Noble, Target, Land’s End and Shutterfly are only a few of the many stores available. Give it a try and Holy Spirit School will benefit. Thanks.
SURVEY INFORMATION: There was a very brief survey in your Family envelope last week. It is short but highly important for Title and Grant funding. Please take a few minutes to fill this out and return it to the school by Friday, May 30th. Thank you.
FUN WALK/RUN RAFFLE: Don’t forget to sell or purchase the raffle tickets to win the LaDainian Tomlinson autographed football! The tickets were sent home 4/23/08. The raffle will take place this Friday, May 30, 2008 at morning announcements. Thank you for your support.
CLEAN-UP DAY: It us time to start taking sign-ups for our annual clean-up day for next fall. Clean-up day will be from 8:30 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, August 16th. It’s a great way to start getting your parent hours done, and we will have a fun morning getting the school ready for our beloved teachers. If you have an older student (4th-8th grade), this will also be a way for them to get started on their service hours as well. We will need lots of help to clean everything, so please sign up if you are available that day. You can sign up by sending an email to barney168@sbcglobal.net. Thanks for your help.
ATTENTION…ATTENTION: Field Day is coming up soon and we need some help. Volunteers are needed to help serve food to the students on June 10, 2008 so sign up and help at this FUN event! Contact Kelly Hopkins at kellyhopkins@kw.com or 510-366-7695 for details.
RECYCLE FIRST COMMUNION DRESSES; Our neighboring parish, St. Joseph, is collecting First Communion dresses for their sister parish, Santa Maria del Camino in Guatemala City. Santa Maria del Camino serves a very large and extremely poor community. If you can help, please bring the First Communion items to the school office by May 30. St. Joseph parishioners will carry the items with them when they visit Guatemala in June.
2008 HOLY SPIRIT SPARTANS CYO TRACK & FIELD TEAM: The Holy Spirit Spartans CYO Track & Field team concluded its 2008 season on April 26th with its K-2nd graders competing in the MVAL finals at Memorial High School. HS 3rd – 8th graders competed May 9 & 10 at the Oakland Diocesan Championship meet at Chabot College and Granada High School. Twenty-three athletes represented Holy Spirit at the Oakland meet. Congratulations to all of our athletes who participated in meets all season! Go Spartans!
CYO CAMP FLYERS: New flyers for the year’s CYO Summer Camp are available in the school lobby information center. There are also flyers on the new CYO Outdoor Environmental Education program for 5th – 8th graders. Please see this information as well as all other summer camp information in the school lobby.
NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Dear Parents and Students,
Holy Spirit School will have a lot going on throughout the summer. First, we will have Family Bible Week – I hope you and your children have signed up to attend the sessions the week of June 16-19. I’m still looking for helpers to work with Preschool-6th grade children.
The Diocesan Student Leadership Conference will be held at Holy Spirit School the week of June 23 – 27. Miss Vollov has worked with this Conference for many years and has helped bring it to HSS so that it helps provide all students an introduction to ways to be leaders in their schools throughout the coming year.
Our Parent Work Day will be Saturday, August 16, from 8:30 – 11:30, so please come and help us get the classrooms and grounds ready for the start of school.
The first day of school will be August 25. We will begin that day with 8:00 Mass. (Please leave backpacks on the bench before coming into Church.) We will not have morning assembly. Please sit with your child(ren) for the Mass. Your child will be called forward at the end of Mass to go to their class. Then we invite you to go over to the Gym for the Coffee Social provided by the 5th grade parents. It is a great time to meet and catch up on events with friends. School dismissal will be at 10:15 am.
Blessings,
Susan C. Buchanan
