CASH FOR CLASS - WE DID IT!!! I am pleased to say that Holy Spirit School came in First Place and received a check for $2,000.00 at the awards ceremony last Friday. I want to thank all of the families who shopped at the Fremont Hub and turned in their receipts. Please remember that the contest begins again on August 1st, so start saving those receipts to turn in when school starts! Thanks again and have a great summer. Lenora Garcia

CASH CALENDAR: Our $100.00 Cash Calendar winner for this week is Marcie Perez. The Eastwood family sold the winning ticket. Congratulations!  Our $1,000.00 drawing will be on the last day of school.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Your Cash Calendar tickets went home in your Family Envelope.  You may begin selling or purchasing the tickets now, and all tickets must be sold or purchased by February 27, 2009. Each family is responsible for 30 tickets at $10.00 each ($300.00 total).

SUMMER READING LISTS: Summer reading lists were handed out to your children today in their classrooms. Be sure to go over the lists with your children. Once our computer system is up and running again, we plan to put all the Summer Reading lists and the Supply lists for each class on our website. Remember, our Parent-Student Handbook is already on the website to refer to if you have any questions about school policies, etc.

SCHOOLPOP.COM Remember, when shopping on-line, go through Schoolpop.com and you can shop at hundreds of merchants and you not only save time and money, but our school will receive up to a 22.5% contribution on every purchase. Stores such as Barnes & Noble, Target, Land’s End and Shutterfly are only a few of the many stores available. Give it a try and Holy Spirit School will benefit. Thanks.

CLEAN-UP DAY:  It us time to start taking sign-ups for our annual clean-up day for next fall.  Clean-up day will be from 8:30 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, August 16th. It’s a great way to start getting your parent hours done, and we will have a fun morning getting the school ready for our beloved teachers.  If you have an older student (4th-8th grade), this will also be a way for them to get started on their service hours as well. We will need lots of help to clean everything, so please sign up if you are available that day. You can sign up by sending an email to barney168@sbcglobal.net. Thanks for your help.

PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS: Please remember to save BOXTOPS for Education over the summer. We will be collecting the Box tops in early fall. Thanks.

NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

Dear Parents and Students,

Summer is fast approaching and whether you are traveling far or just staying near by, we hope that you will have a wonderful summer!

We also wish Mr. Hall, Mrs. Langlands and Mrs. Hancock all the best in their new endeavors.  All at Holy Spirit School will miss them.

I wanted to let you know that we have had a successful search for new teachers.  Our fourth grade teacher will be Miss Theresa Baker.  She has been a CA credentialed educator for over 20 years in grades K-5.  She is dedicated and strives to make a difference in students’ lives.  She encourages students to achieve their highest potential.

Our new technology coordinator will be Derek Velasco.  Although new to teaching, he has coached boys and girls in grades 5-11 in basketball and has multiple experiences with computer hardware and software applications. His experience and diligent work ethic help students and staff, making him an excellent new addition to Holy Spirit School.

Our third new teacher, Mrs. Theresa Rezentes, holds a M.A. degree in Elementary Education and a CA credential.  She has worked with Title I students in two elementary schools to improve reading, language and writing skills.  Mrs. Rezentes will work with 5th & 6th grade writing/composition and with the 4th grade as well as with resource.  Her efforts will help to provide smaller class sizes in several important academic areas.

I will continue the search for a qualified music teacher for the 2008-09 school year.  Please pray for God to bring us a wonderful person to teach our students.

May God watch over all of you!

Blessings,

Susan C. Buchanan
