Holy Spirit Parent Club Minutes

 

Meeting in Small Hall on 2/8/08 at 7:00 pm

 

Families Attending: Legaspi, Mercado, Baker, Zamora, Phelps, Szto, Viado, Pascual, Tijani, Cordero, Lombana, Eastwood, McKinley, Pearsall, Advincula-DeLosAngeles, Lopez-Velasco, Yee, Smith, Aguirre, Santillana, Barrett, Pena, Paglieri, Hooper & Nye

 

1. Opening prayer – Judy Nye
1. Judy introduced Rob Paglieri – Rob is a board member and has offered to help out with the Parent Club – Welcome Rob!
2. Fun Run Update –
1. Connie Santillana gave us an update on the Fun Run.
2. To date we have 105 people registered for the Fun Run that started at the Pancake Breakfast.
3. Sponsorship this is year is low

                                               i.         We have online registration at Active.com

                                              ii.         HSS website will be updated and will include a link to active.com

                                             iii.         A suggestions was made to have sponsorship rates lowered in increments of $25, $50, $75 etc instead of just $150

                                            iv.         Also suggested that there is a way to access Rosie’s e-mail on the link to send suggestions and questions

                                             v.         Sponsorship are as follows:

1.     $150.00           Spirit

2.     $300.00           Bronze

3.     $500.00           Silver

4.     $1000.00         Gold

3. Mother/Daughter Brunch 3/2/08
1. This event has been moved to 4/19/08 to allow for more time.
2. May be an afternoon that takes place in the afternoon instead of a brunch
4. Parent Club Membership – Judy opened for discussion.  What do the parents expect from the parent club?  How would they like to see it run and how can we make this meeting more appealing to the parents.
1. Fun activities on a smaller scale

                                               i.         Movie night

                                              ii.         Science night – few hundred dollars, inexpensive

2. Membership more appealing

                                               i.         Room reps for Parent Club

                                              ii.         Serves on the board with them for each grade

                                             iii.         Once definition is made of what exactly the parent club does then we can ask more people to come for a definite purpose.

                                            iv.         Send out a survey – paper or e-mail?

                                             v.         Yahoo Group that was being developed was brought up

                                            vi.         We could create a yahoo link

                                           vii.         We need more ENTHUSIASM! We need to build on our community and communicate to one another about how great the school is

                                          viii.         79% of families have two working parents

                                            ix.         We need to reach out and ask for help instead of just inviting people.

                                             x.         The Survey would be a great way to engage the Kindergarten parents more.

                                            xi.         We believe that the survey should lead off with event questions, ask reasons why they didn’t attend

                                           xii.         We should market to the kids – we will normally do what our kids ask us to do.

                                          xiii.         Update school site with a link to see what is happening

                                         xiv.         We spoke about subscribing so that information is automatically pushed out to those who are requesting auto update.

                                          xv.         Check out wish list on the website for each class.

3. Number of Meetings

                                               i.         Once a Month

                                              ii.         Friday is still the best day for the meetings for the majority of the group

5. Future Goals of Parent Club
1. Primary function was fundraising
2. Clear Mission as to what the Parent Club Does
3. We have 3 major fundraising projects that go directly to the operating budget of the school:

                                               i.         Crab Feed

                                              ii.         Cash Calendar

                                             iii.         Golf Tournament

4. We have approximately 12K that was not earmarked for the school
5. Discussion and recommendation, in order of priority, potential Parent Club – sponsored projects – Presentation by Tim Reiner
1. Everyone got a chance to discuss and vote on the projects that they felt would be the great benefit to the kids.
2. The projects were ranked as follows:

1.     10 Apple Laptops

2.     Field Prep for Lunch Recess (upper grades)

3.     Ceiling Fans for Classrooms

4.     Nike Grind for Playground

5.     Reserves

6.     Mount Projectors

7.     Telephones with voice mail

8.     “Wish Lists” Fulfillment by Class

9.     Sport Court by Preschool

7. New Business
1. Father & Son Event – Vanessa Barrett

                                               i.         3/29/08 the event will take place

                                              ii.         Need help for this event

                                             iii.         A’s vs Giants game that will take place the last Saturday of Easter Week vacation – Tail Gate & BBQ

                                            iv.         This is a every other year event

                                             v.         Vanessa is looking for someone to co-chair this event and eventually take over

2. Café Espiritu on Fridays

                                               i.         Ideas to boost attendance

1.     Some funds can go to Science camp?

2.     Any other ideas welcome
